Phil Lord and Chris Miller were infamously fired from Solo: A Star Wars Story last year, but their hard work in assembling the film's cast and getting the whole thing up and running is not going uncredited.

Rather than sharing directing credit with Ron Howard, who took over after their departure, the duo are going to receive an executive producer credit instead.

Speaking at the GLAS Animation Festival Friday in California (via TheWrap), the duo stated: "We were really proud of the many contributions we made to that film.

"In light of the creative differences, we elected to take an executive producer credit."

While there's been a lot of behind the scenes drama surrounding Solo: A Star Wars Story, what we've seen so far looks... safe and unspectacular, if we're being honest.

Obviously we hope the movie is more than just fine (it is Star Wars, after all) but we're not hugely hyped.

Donald Glover, whose portrayal of Lando Calrissian is the best thing about this project we've seen so far, recently described Solo is "just a fun, summer film."

We're sure that Ron Howard and Disney (who also own Marvel, lest we forget) will deliver a fun ride, but we can't help but wonder how Lord and Miller's version would have turned out.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will hit cinemas on May 25. Watch the trailer below:
