Starbucks is looking forward to a very berry summer!

On Tuesday, May 7, the coffee brand springs into summer with the release of three new fruit-forward drinks. And they all include something the brand hasn’t experimented with before: raspberry-flavored pearls.

The bright blue drinks are inspired by East Asian drinks featuring boba and pearls. They are each made of a “sweet and summery blend of raspberry, blueberry and blackberry,” per a press release, but vary slightly. The Summer-Berry Refresher is combined with water; the Summer-Berry Lemonade is, of course, mixed with lemonade; and the Summer Skies Drink is blended with coconut milk.

Each Summer-Berry Refresher comes with a wider straw for the pearls, similar to those for bubble tea.

The raspberry-flavored pearls included in each variation offer a “refreshing pop of flavor and color,” the company says. PEOPLE got a first taste test of the new drinks and can confirm that they truly scream summer.

My first taste of the raspberry pearls was very surprising. I expected it to be chewy like boba, but it wasn’t at all. Instead, Starbucks’ pearls really pop and burst in your mouth in an instant. Since they’re not made of tapioca, they aren’t chewy. The bright flavor makes for a fun complement to the three beverages.

The Summer-Berry Refresher is the classic one out of the three. It gave off a mild sour flavor — almost like a blue raspberry Dum Dum lollipop (in the best way!).

Next up was my favorite: the Summer-Berry Lemonade. The sweet, citrus touch actually tempered the more sour taste of the mixed-berry drink, making for a super refreshing sip when you need a pick-me-up in the upcoming summer months.

The Summer Skies drink lives up to its name — it really transported me to the beach. The coconut milk brings a creamy, luscious dimension to the blue drink and adds a subtle sweetness to balance out the more sour berry notes.

While the new pearls may be ephemeral, their quick flavor zap makes for a fun, new beverage. Even better? You can customize other Starbucks drinks and refreshers by adding the pearls to any order of your choice.
