Stormzy is opening a football centre with a recording studio in Croydon on Thursday to provide music and sporting opportunities for young Londoners.

The new facilities, built on the existing Selhurst Sports Arena in Stormzy’s home borough, include football pitches, a sports gaming room, conference room and recording studio which can be used by aspiring local artists as well as for podcasts.

The space will be managed by the Communities First Foundation charity with investment from Adidas.

The venue will continue to host year-round events and educational activities, and even offer a gaming area where young people can test their skills on the latest EA Sports FC and F1 games.

The building is a continuation of the Merky FC careers programme set up by Stormzy and Adidas in 2022 to help young Black Britons access jobs in the football industry.

Stormzy said he’s “gassed” to finally be opening the doors.

“I’ve wanted to do this for a long, long time and now there’s a community space that everyone in the area will be able to use and benefit from.

“When I was growing up there was nothing like this around for young people, so it means a lot that we now have a facility like this in Croydon.”
