Stranger Things' executive producer Shawn Levy and Netflix are bringing a reboot of long-running true crime show Unsolved Mysteries, which aired between 1987 and 2010.

Levy will be working together with original production company Cosgrove-Meurer Productions on the paranormal-focused documentary series, wrote Deadline.

The new series will feature 12 instalments, following the show's original documentary format, and will focus on unexplained crimes, missing people and paranormal events.

What will be different this time is that the each episode will be developed around one mystery, whereas the original show had multiple cases going on at the same time.

The crime show's original producers have been looking to revive the series for a long time and looks like Netflix is just the right place for them.

The order of the new paranormal series is the latest collaboration between Levy and the streaming platform after two wildly successful seasons of Stranger Things.

Fans are patiently waiting for Stranger Things's upcoming third season, and co-creators the Duffer Brothers have been hard at work planning season four.

Though Levy originally intended the series to end after season four, he later revealed that a fifth season was still a possibility.

Speaking to EW, Levy said at the time: "Hearts were heard breaking in Netflix headquarters when the brothers made four seasons sound like an official end, and I was suddenly getting phone calls from our actors' agents.

"The truth is we're definitely going four seasons [sic] and there's very much the possibility of a fifth. Beyond that, it becomes I think very unlikely," he added.

Stranger Things seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch now on Netflix. Season 3 returns to Netflix on July 4, 2019.
