Suits: L.A.: Stephen Amell to Star in NBC Spinoff

Stephen Amell’s TV wardrobe is taking a turn for the traditional: The Arrow and Heels actor has landed a starring role in Suits: L.A., the newest spinoff from the resurgent franchise.

The potential series — which was ordered to pilot at NBC earlier this month — centers on Amell’s Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who is described as a “charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others,” per the official synopsis. “Ted joined forces 15 years ago with his old buddy, Stuart Lane, to build an L.A. law firm that specializes in criminal and entertainment law.”

The role of Stuart Lane, as well as the female lead, Erica, are expected to be cast in the coming days.

Amell — whose anti-strike rhetoric over the summer triggered a SAG-AFTRA firestorm — is, of course, best known for playing the lead role of Oliver Queen on The CW’s Arrow for eight seasons. He more recently starred in Starz’ short-lived wrestling drama Heels.

Aaron Korsh, who created the original USA Network drama, is penning the Suits: L.A. pilot and executive-producing alongside David Bartis, Doug Liman, Gene Klein and director Victoria Mahoney.

Production is slated to begin in late March in Vancouver, Canada.

The Feb. 1 pilot order came after an unexpected resurgence for the mothership show as it soared to streaming records on Netflix over last summer, becoming the most-streamed program of 2023. Available on Netflix since June (as well as on Peacock), the “blue sky” drama racked up 57.7 billion minutes viewed across its 134-episode library, Nielsen reports in its 2023 wrap-up, easily topping the list of Top 10 overall programs.
