Sunrise hosts 'mind blown' by Jamie Oliver's surprising cooking hack

'I did not expect that.'

Sunrise hosts Nat Barr and Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington were left stunned during Thursday morning’s broadcast when celebrity chef Jamie Oliver showed them an impressive cooking hack.

While promoting his new cookbook 5 Ingredients Mediterranean, Jamie revealed the unique way he cooks chicken and chips.

He began by marinating chicken and potatoes with a blend of lemon, olive oil, oregano, salt and pepper, before wedging the chicken legs through an oven rack.

Jamie then placed the rack into the pre-heated oven so the chicken was hanging over the tray of potatoes.

“This is giving you the best, most juicy chicken and crispy skin and that's all dripping down onto potatoes, giving you beautiful potatoes,” he explained.

The ‘Naked Chef’ shared that the cooking style was inspired by his travels across the Mediterranean where he saw rotisseries on the roadsides.

“What you end up with [is] one of the best expressions of chicken and chips, and Australia I know you’re going to love it,” he said. “Five ingredients, working really, really hard.”

'Genius'

Sunrise’s team of presenters were so impressed by Jamie’s technique that they applauded him at the end of his demonstration.

“That was nuts!” Edwina Bartholomew remarked, while Shirvo said he was “mind blown”.

“How good is that?” he added. “Well done. The knuckle in the grill, genius. He’s a genius!”

“Wow, I did not expect that,” Nat Barr shared. “I’ve never seen that!”

“The man’s gifted,” sports reporter Mark Beretta commented.
