Swimmer Henry Baker says support from Boost Drinks and SportsAid can catalyse his journey towards making a splash on the world stage.

The 19-year-old, who lived in the Middle East for most of his childhood, is determined to represent Great Britain at senior level having made his junior bow at the 2021 European Championships.

Now a student at the University of Stirling and part of an intense and demanding swimming programme, Baker believes that funding from Boost Drinks can help catapult his career to the next level.

“At Stirling they follow a very strict, almost scientific formula, which you have to do tests for,” said Baker, whose financial support from Boost Drinks sees him benefit from a company born over 20 years ago with a vision of energising everybody in every way and is committed to supporting its local communities, whether this be fuelling them with its range of Sports, Energy, Iced Coffee, and Protein Drinks, or by getting more involved to help them achieve their goal.

“With the funding that I've been given, I'm able to basically fund myself for these tests, whereas last year it was a lot more of a struggle to get them done because I didn't have that money to be able to pay for them.

“The testing will allow me to enhance my training programme because it allows me to do those tests that I wasn't able to do in the first place.

“It will allow me to make training more specific to me, my abilities and my strengths and weaknesses.”

Into the second year of a Sport and Exercise Science degree, Baker added that the support has helped ease the burden on him as a student.

“There is also the transport aspect as well,” he said.

“For competitions, I have to go all the way down to Sheffield four or five times a year to race.

“The funding helps with transport to get there and also with finding places to stay throughout the week.”

SportsAid supports over 1,000 athletes each year – in the early stages of their career – by providing them with a financial award to help towards training and competition costs.

These athletes are Great Britain's brightest sporting prospects, nominated to SportsAid by the national governing bodies of more than 60 sports based on set criteria from each.

Baker added: “It’s definitely a good confidence boost to have Boost Drinks’ support.

“Having such a big company support me means I can take the next step in my career.

“It's boosted me already, and hopefully I can go even further and possibly make big teams in the future with this help.”

Boost Drinks provides young athletes with financial support, recognition, and personal development opportunities through its partnership with SportsAid.
