Taylor Hill made a major style change last year, and she couldn't be loving her new look more.

In September, the former Victoria's Secret Angel revealed on Instagram that she'd cut her long brunette locks into a chic pixie cut, and seven months later, Hill, 28, is still rocking a short 'do.

"I'm loving it," she tells PEOPLE at the launch event for her new pet care brand, Tate & Taylor, in New York City. "It was such a big change, but it was an exciting change."

While the decision may have come off rash to her social media followers, Hill had been pondering the move for quite some time.

"I had all this hair my whole life, so I've always wanted to cut my hair. I always was like, 'I feel it would be really fun,' " she says. "I had this feeling."

She felt that a shorter look would better suit her, citing "the way I dress."

"It was like — I feel like it would make sense on me," she says. "And I cut my hair and then all of a sudden all my clothes made sense. It was just weird, like, 'Oh, this was why I couldn't wear that skirt.' "

The "Aha!" moment made her realize, "This is is the look. It goes with what I'm trying to do. So I'm loving it."

In the video from September, after the first big chop was done, Hill literally let out a sigh of relief. "I feel better already guys," she said before holding the hair in her hands and saying, "Bye!"

Then, with a smirk, she declared, "I feel like this isn't quite short enough," and New York City hairstylist Takuya Yamaguchi continued to chop and style. The result was a chic pixie cut with a bit of layering, and after the fact, Hill said with a smile, "I feel like this is what I was always meant to look like."

Her first red carpet appearance after cutting her hair was to attend the New York Fashion Week event celebrating the Victoria's Secret World Tour, which marked the return of the iconic show for the first time since its cancellation in November 2019 over a lack of diversity.

Instead of a runway show, the Victoria's Secret World Tour was a film celebrating 20 innovative global creatives who created a collection with inspiration from "the vibrant cities of Bogota, Lagos, London and Tokyo," according to a press release.

"We're celebrating the iconic heritage of the brand through a new generation of artists, and we can't wait to amplify their vision through our worldwide platform," Chris Rupp, chief customer officer at Victoria's Secret said in a statement.

Hill wrote on Instagram that she was "so grateful to have been a small part of this very special project," adding, "It felt good being back on the pink carpet 💗."
