Taylor Swift fans demand singer show support for Palestine
Taylor Swift is under mounting pressure from fans to show her support for Palestine, with the hashtag #SwiftiesforPalestine becoming the fourth-most-trending topic on X Wednesday afternoon.
Many supporters of the musician ramped up their calls for action online in recent days, following a deadly airstrike Sunday, which reportedly killed 45 Palestinians in Rafah.
One post, which tagged the singer, said, “Your silence has been deafening and in times like these you should speak up!!”
The post, which had earned 44,000 likes by midday Thursday, also contained a formal letter addressed to Swift, urging her to speak out on the “current humanitarian crisis” in Palestine.
Another widely shared fan post called on those attending Swift’s concerts in Madrid to bring signage to try to get the pop star’s attention.
However, a community note in response to the post noted that Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, where Swift is performing, does not allow political signs or flags.
Others online have taken notice of the fact that Swift’s friends and collaborators have been speaking out on the subject.
Her longtime record producer and co-songwriter Jack Antonoff showed his support by reposting the viral “All Eyes on Rafah” artwork to his Instagram story.
The band Paramore, who currently opens for Swift on her Eras Tour, shared a message of their own on the platform.
“We do not believe that support for our Palestinian friends and family equals anti-Semitism,” the band wrote in a post to their Instagram story. “We love our Jewish friends and family and pray for the safe return of the remaining hostages. That being said, we simply cannot support a genocide. We stand in solidarity with those calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.”
They also included a link encouraging fans to donate to Doctors Without Borders, supporting their efforts in Gaza.
