Ted Renewed for Season 2 at Peacock

You didn’t think you were getting rid of the Thunder Buddies that easily, did you?

Peacock had renewed Ted for Season 2, TVLine has learned. The news comes roughly four months after the release of Season 1, which dropped all seven episodes on Jan. 11.

While originally billed as an “event series,” series creator Seth MacFarlane previously told TVLine that he wasn’t ruling out a Season 2. “Anything is possible,” he said in January. “I would not want to shoehorn the show into a category as far as its sustainability. I think it depends on the response. If there’s an appetite for it, anything is possible.”

One week after its premiere, NBCUniversal disclosed that Ted launched as Peacock‘s most-watched original title ever through its first three days on the platform. At the time of its release, Peacock had surged to the top of app store popularity ahead of its exclusive NFL Wild Card game, which streamed on Jan. 14 and had an average audience of approximately 23 million viewers across Peacock, NBC stations in Miami and Kansas City, and on mobile (with NFL+).

Ted picks up 19 years ahead of the first Ted movie. It’s 1993, and Ted’s “moment of fame has passed, leaving him living with his best friend John (now played by Parenthood’s Max Burkholder), who lives in a working-class Boston home with his parents and cousin,” according to the official logline. “Ted may not be the best influence on John, but when it comes right down to it, Ted’s willing to go out on a limb to help his friend and his family.”

Rounding out the ensemble are Scott Grimes (The Orville) and Alanna Ubach (Euphoria) as John’s parents Matty and Susan, and Giorgia Whigham (13 Reasons Why) as John’s cousin, Blaire.

The original Ted focused on Mark Wahlberg’s John Bennett, a Boston native whose childhood wish brought Ted to life. Mila Kunis played John’s girlfriend Lori in the first film, while Amanda Seyfried was introduced as John’s new love interest Samantha in 2015’s Ted 2.

The first movie became the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time that wasn’t a sequel or derived from other IP. The first and second films brought in a combined $750 million worldwide.

A Ted Season 2 release date has not yet been announced.
