A 15-year-old boy remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries and police have charged an 18-year-old man following a stabbing in Nepean on Thursday.

Ottawa police say emergency responders were called around noon to the 100 block of Constellation Drive, where they found the teen in critical condition. He was treated at the scene and taken to hospital where he remains "with life-threatening injuries," police said on the social media platform X.

On Friday, police said they had charged an 18-year-old man, but did not elaborate on what charges he's facing.

Earlier on Thursday afternoon, police and paramedic vehicles were seen parked near the entrance of the Mary Pitt Centre, a municipal administration building that contains the offices of Ottawa Public Health and the provincial offences court.

The provincial offences centre were closed for the day.

In a statement, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board confirmed the teen is a student at nearby Sir Guy Carleton Secondary School. The school did not go into lockdown following the stabbing, a board spokesperson said.

The board said the boy's family has been notified and the school is co-operating with the police investigation.
