Teen reveals first thought during crocodile attack on holiday
An 18-year-old woman is lucky to be alive after she was attacked by a crocodile while holidaying in Zambia.
Amelie Osborn-Smith was white water rafting on the Zambezi River near the Victoria Falls when the three-metre reptile bit her and dragged her under the water.
The British teenager admitted she had "accepted" she would lose her foot, saying she just hoped to make it out alive.
'Such a relief'
The teen was taken to Medland Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia where she underwent surgery to save her foot. She spoke to trauma surgeon Dr Collin West following her surgery saying she is "very very lucky."
"You don't really think in that situation, obviously people say you see your life flash before your eyes or whatever but you don't, you just think 'how do I get out of this situation?'," she told Dr West.
"Your brain just goes into overdrive and you just think how to get out but I was just very, very lucky.
"When the accident happened I fully accepted the fact I was going to lose my foot and I accepted that and I'd said to all my friends, 'It's fine, I've lost my foot, I'm still alive'.
"Then I was told my foot is fine and I'm going to be able to walk again and it's such a relief."
Friends 'punched' the croc to save her
According to The Sun, Ms Osborn-Smith was saved by a friend who reportedly punched the crocodile on the nose while other rafters and guides also jumped in the water to fight the giant reptile off.
She was flown by helicopter to an aid post in nearby Livingstone and then on to the capital Lusaka, 385km away, where surgeons managed to save her foot.

A post on the hospital's social media accounts on Sunday (local time) said "Amelie is recovering and rejoining her family in the UK within the coming 48 hours."
