Novak Djokovic has left the tennis world seeking answers after the 36-year-old was seen with an object taped to his chest during the match against Matin Fucsovics at the French Open. Djokovic has appeared to find form on clay just in time after defeating the dangerous Hungarian 7-6, 6-0, 6-3 to reach the third round in Paris.

However, fans were startled during the match when they noticed a bizarre object strapped to Djokovic's chest during the changeover. Djokovic opted to change his top during the match and it revealed a small metal object taped to his chest. He then swapped over the object during the match.

The tennis world exploded with curiosity with fans speculating and seeking answers for Djokovic's unusual accessory. During commentary, tennis great Jim Courier was asked about the object and the only answer he could come up with was that it replicated something from Marvel's Iron Man.

"Have you ever seen Robert Downie Junior in the same room as Djokovic? Maybe Djokovic is Iron Man," Courier joked. After the match, Djokovic was asked to explain the object.

And the 22-time grand slam champion also referenced the Marvel superhero in the cheeky response. "When I was a kid I liked Iron Man a lot. So I am trying to impersonate Iron Man," Djokovic said.

"And my team delivers incredibly efficient nanotechnology to deliver my best on the court. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't be sitting here."

Djokovic's joke only raised more questions than answers with the tennis world still baffled over whether the object was a superstition, or a sentimental object for Djokovic. Regardless, fans will find out more in his third round match if he reveals it again.

Novak Djokovic progresses in tough conditions

Djokovic has struggled with form and consistency this clay court season, but took his game to the next against Fucsovics. The Serbian jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first set, but the Hungarian didn't give up and took it to a tiebreak.

Djokovic let our a roar towards his player's box after leading 6-5. And while the set went to a tiebreak, Djokovic won the decisive points.

And Djokovic never looked back having raced away to win in straight sets after two hours and 47 minutes. He set up a match against dangerous Spanish clay court player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round.

"Thank you everyone for your support and presence. I hope you had fun tonight especially in the first set - me, a bit less," Djokovic said in his on-court interview. "I was not surprised. I know him very well, he can play at a very high level on all surfaces. Then I played my best game. I'm very happy with that."

Elsewhere, and on the same side of the draw, Carloz Alcaraz advanced in four sets against Taro Daniel.
