Terry Carter, McCloud and Original Battlestar Galactica Star, Dead at 95
Terry Carter, best known for his portrayal of Sgt. Joe Broadhurst on NBC’s McCloud from 1970 to 1977, has died, his son confirms to The New York Times. He was 95 years old.
A cause of death was not given, but according to his son, Carter passed on Tuesday at his apartment in Manhattan.

Carter’s big break on the small screen came in 1955 when he was cast as Private Sugarman on The Phil Silvers Show, making him one of the first Black actors to land a series-regular sitcom role. Carter appeared in more than 90 episodes of the show, which aired on CBS until 1959.
His next major TV role was Sgt. Joe Broadhurst on NBC’s McCloud, a character he portrayed for seven seasons from 1970 to 1977. Carter was back on TV a year later in a very different role, transforming himself into Colonel Tigh on ABC’s Battlestar Galactica, which ran for one season from 1978 to 1979.
Carter also made memorable appearances on classic shows like That Girl (1969), Julia (1968–1970), The Jeffersons (1982), Falcon Crest (1984), Mr. Belvedere (1987) and 227 (1988).
Also a celebrated documentarian, Carter took home a Los Angeles Emmy Award in 1985 for K*I*D*S, an unflinching miniseries he created, directed and produced about a diverse group of teenagers confronting the biggest issues facing teens at the time.
