Tom Blyth's mother was 'livid' over fatal “Hunger Games” scene involving her celeb crush

"She sits forward in her chair and mouths to me, "How dare you?'"

Warning: This post contains spoilers from the 10th annual Hunger Games.

Mama Blyth is not happy that her son is responsible for Peter Dinklage’s fictional demise in The Hunger Games prequel.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes star Tom Blyth, who plays a teenage Coriolanus Snow in the dystopian drama, says his mother was absolutely livid that his character poisons Dinklage’s Casca Highbottom in the film. “I watched the movie with my mom at the London premiere and she has a bit of a crush on Peter,” Blyth tells EW. “And she turns to me and sits forward in her chair and mouths to me, ‘How dare you?’ She was truly livid. She loves Peter Dinklage. Sorry, mom.”

Set six decades before the events of the original franchise, Songbirds and Snakes follows 18-year-old Coriolanus as an Academy student during the 10th annual Hunger Games. Dinklage’s Casca is dean of the school and the characters harbor a deep disdain for each other. It’s revealed that Casca is the unintentional architect of the brutal Games, which he conceived for a final school project alongside his former bestie and classmate named — wait for it — Crassus Snow, Coriolanus’ late father.

The prompt for the project was to create a punishment so extreme that their enemies would never forget about their wrongdoings. Much to Casca’s horror, Crassus — who pumped him full of booze to flesh out the project under the ruse that it was all a joke — submitted his idea to their professor, head gamemaker Volumnia Gaul (Viola Davis), for a good grade. A betrayed Casca now holds a grudge against the young Snow. Though their characters spar on screen, Blyth’s mother would be elated to hear that he and Dinklage had a warm relationship off-camera.

“He’s so about the work,” the actor says. “He makes such strong choices. Every take is different. He and I became quite close over the course of the shoot.” Blyth also received invaluable advice from the Emmy-winning Game of Thrones star: “The advice he gave was, ‘This is going to be a big film. It's going to have its own machinery that carries it forward. There's going to be a lot of noise. But just focus on the work [and] enjoy it,’”  Blyth shares. “I'm very grateful to him for taking me under his wing.”
