Newborn baby rescued after being ‘buried alive’ in US riverbed

The miracle baby girl has been rescued after being found ‘buried alive’ under asphalt and rubble inside a crevice near a riverbed in California.

A witness alerted officials that a baby could be heard crying somewhere along the riverbed in Los Angeles.

Deputies Perry and Collette responded to the scene of the incident.

Upon arrival they heard a baby’s muffled cries as they canvassed the large area locating the baby a short time after.

The newborn baby girl is thought to be between 36 to 48 hours old and authorities have issued a plea to the public to try and locate her family.

When the deputies recovered the baby, they reported she was cold to the touch.

She was then medically triaged at the scene by Compton Fire Department officials.

She was later transported to a local hospital where she was listed in stable condition and is currently in the custody of the county's Department of Children and Family Services, authorities said.

"If the child had spent the night there, in those conditions, the baby wouldn't have survived," sheriff's Sgt. Marvin Jaramilla said at a news conference.
