Clue found in search for teenager missing in Coromandel
The hat belonging to a teenager missing in the Coromandel has been found by police.
Search teams, dive squads and volunteers have been scouring waterways and the Whitianga township for 19-year-old Lucas Cochrane, who was last seen at a function at Whitianga Fire Station late on Saturday night.
On Wednesday afternoon, police found a hat they believe he was wearing he was last seen near a waterway - their first lead in the search - and they will now focus their efforts on that area.
The disappearance has been described as "completely out of character".
Farms, small pockets of bush, roadways and waterways had been searched without success to date.
