Toronto and surrounding areas remain under a special weather statement issued by Environment Canada earlier this week.
Rainfall amounts of between 25 and 40 millimetres are expected, the federal weather agency said.
Mitch Meredith, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said rain will likely transition to wet snow Wednesday evening, especially in areas farther from Lake Ontario.
Between five and 10 centimetres of snow could accumulate, though some is expected to melt off with temperatures hovering around 0 C or slightly higher.
Toronto's Pearson International Airport said it is experiencing flight delays Wednesday due to the weather. Incoming and outgoing flights between Toronto and some airports along the U.S. eastern seaboard including New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia are delayed, it said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The gloomy spring weather is forecast to stick around until the weekend, with sunshine and daily temperature highs in the low to mid-teens expected on Saturday and Sunday and through to early next week.
