Travis Head and wife share massive personal news as Aussies handed boost at T20 World Cup

The Aussie cricket star has reason to celebrate before the World Cup even gets underway.

Travis Head will have double the reason to celebrate if Australia can win the T20 World Cup, after the Aussie cricket star and wife Jessica revealed this week they're expecting their second child. Australia will kick off their World Cup campaign against Oman on Thursday morning (Aussie time) in their first match of the showpiece event in the United States and Caribbean.

But the Aussies already have reason to celebrate after Travis and Jessica Head announced she is pregnant. The star couple revealed the news on social media that daughter Milla is set to be a big sister.

“Milla’s best friend loading,” they wrote in a joint post. “We couldn’t be more excited to be growing our beautiful, happy family in November. What’s a little more chaos?"

The wives of Pat Cummins and Aaron Finch were among the many to send messages of congratulations. "Ahhhh ah ah ah ah eeeeee!!" wrote Becky Cummins. While Amy Finch commented: "Congrats lovely!!"

The Heads welcomed Milla into the world in September 2022, and took her on their honeymoon last year after getting married. The family travelled around Europe for a much-needed break before Head scored a match-winning century for Australia in the World Test Championship final against India.

Head then helped Australia retain the Ashes in England before another match-winning century in the ODI World Cup final - also against India. It capped a whirlwind for months both on and off the field - and came after Head didn't even pick up a cricket bat for months during his honeymoon.

“We felt like it was very important to spend that time to do it right, to have a trip and have a great time together and not worry about it," he previously told 7News about getting away from cricket last year. “I’m a pretty relaxed character but it was definitely out of my comfort zone to do something like that for that amount of time. But I wouldn’t change it for the world.

“Whether I got runs or didn’t get runs it was hugely important to spend that time. We’ve got some great photos of us and Milla - that’s what makes it so special to then go in and perform the way I did.”

Head will once again be pivotal to Australia's hopes of winning the T20 World Cup. And the Aussies were handed a huge boost before a bowl was even bowled against Oman thanks to some fickle weather.

England's opening match against Scotland on Tuesday was rained out in Barbados after just 10 overs of play. England were heavy favourites to claim maximum points, but will instead have to settle for sharing a point each with Scotland.

It means defending champions England now have little margin of error in their remaining group games. And they will be undercooked when they face Australia in Bridgetown on Saturday (Sunday 5am AEST) after also having two of their four warm-up matches against Pakistan ruined by rain.

England were facing a tricky chase in the Caribbean after Scotland smashed 0-90 off 10 overs. England's revised target under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) Method was 109 in 10 overs - which wouldn't have been easy on a difficult pitch - so they might be breathing a sigh of relief.

"It's disappointment for everyone," England captain Jos Buttler said. "There were a couple of balls here and there we'd want to tighten up on, but we scrapped hard and we were confident of chasing that score down." Scotland skipper Richie Berrington said: "If we had bowled and fielded well, we had an opportunity there."
