University plans to expand city centre campus
A recently renovated Grade II listed building in a city centre could soon form part of a university campus.
University College Birmingham (UCB) plans to buy space at Baskerville House in Centenary Square in the city centre.
The site will house student support and student employability services, as well a library, quiet learning spaces and other professional services functions.
Vice chancellor and principal, Professor Michael Harkin, said UCB had a "proud history" of investing in the city centre and had spent "close to £200m" on buildings and facilities in the last ten years.
The expansion follows a £23m redevelopment of the former James Cond printworks to create the Centre for Sustainable Construction in December, and a new £6m sixth form centre development in Camden House.
The investment at Baskerville House will enable the university to repurpose its existing Link Building, to house the new School of Psychology, Sport and Education, a UCB spokesperson said.
A meetings and events space would be also established at the new premises to support local businesses, employers and industry partners.
