Weather in pictures: Snowy scenes across UK amid warnings of 'bitterly' cold days ahead

Arctic air has brought snow and freezing temperatures to much of the UK - with "bitterly cold" weather forecast for the rest of the week.

Yellow weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued across Scotland, much of northern England and parts of North Wales until Thursday, when conditions will switch to milder temperatures along with wind and rain.

Looking ahead, Met Office chief meteorologist Andy Page said "it will feel bitterly cold with daytime temperatures in the low single figures for many, and overnight temperatures will fall to -3C or -4C in many towns and cities, and it will be even colder in many rural areas".
