A Saskatoon man has been charged with impaired driving after police say he crashed into a police cruiser early on Tuesday morning.

Police said the crash happened just before 5 a.m. Two officers were at a red light at Ellis Street and Ouellette Avenue when their marked cruiser was struck by a truck "travelling at a high rate of speed."

"Officers engaged the driver, who exhibited symptoms consistent with impairment. He was subsequently arrested at the scene," police stated in a media release Tuesday.

A 39-year-old Saskatoon man was charged with impaired driving. Police say the officers suffered minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and police are seeking tips from the public.
