Woman reveals horrific moment her lip was bit off by ex-boyfriend

A young woman has spoken about the horrific moment her ex-boyfriend bit her lip off when she told him they would not be getting back together.
Kayla Hayes’ ex-partner Seth Aaron Fleury, 23, was jailed in South Carolina for 12 years after pleading guilty to the attack in October last year.
Ms Hayes wrote an extensive post on her Facebook page following the trial, saying Fleury told her he was “leaving his mark for her next boyfriend”.
The 19-year-old said she had met up with Fleury a few weeks after ending the relationship, but things quickly turned violent when he tried to kiss her.
“I wasn’t there to get back together with him. I refused and backed up only to feeling him latch on to me. Feeling it tear away,” Ms Hayes said.
“I then just started screaming at the top of my lungs for help and out of fear for my life.
“He then yanked me out of my own vehicle and slammed the door in my face so he could take off, and run away from what he had just done.”
The young woman said she could recall the look of terror on a stranger’s face who stopped to help her and called the ambulance.
“I remember being in the ambulance, being told to call my mother. I couldn’t bring myself to do it,” Ms Hayes said.
“I then got on the phone with her friend and I remember trying to say he bit me but no one could understand me because my lips couldn’t pronounce it.
Ms Hayes said she started dating Fleury when she was 17 and he was 21. She said it was her first serious relationship and although they had some great times, “when he was bad, he became a nightmare”.
Since the attack, Ms Hayes has had to drop out of college to have a number of surgeries and has only just gained the courage to venture out of the house.
“It took me months to finally be able to open my mouth wide enough to put a regular-sized small fork or spoon in my mouth,” she said.
“I was having to use little plastic ones that were smaller than the ones that babies use. I could not and still cannot bite off of food, I first have to tear everything to bits.”
Ms Hayes has since found happiness with a new partner and has launched a Facebook group called Rise Above to help other women in violent relationships.
