Zendaya’s Met Gala Dress Hasn’t Even Been Made Yet, According to Her Stylist

In a new interview with ‘The New York Times’, image architect Law Roach says he “hasn’t seen” Zendaya’s Met Gala dress and that she won't be fitted "until Saturday"

Zendaya’s stylist shared a shocking update about her dress — it hasn’t even been made yet.

Considering that the highly anticipated event is just four days away, cutting it close would be an understatement, but Law Roach doesn’t seem all that fazed. In an interview with The New York Times shared on Thursday, May 2, the actress’ longtime stylist and collaborator said that the look won’t be fitted until Saturday — two days before the Monday, May 6 gala.

“I haven’t seen Zendaya’s dress!” he told the outlet. “We’ve been on two press tours — Dune 2 and Challengers — and doing two Vogue covers. The dress isn’t even made. They won’t fit until Saturday.”

The actress, 27, will be making her return to the Met steps after a five-year hiatus. The last time she attended the event was in 2019 when she leaned into the “Camp” theme with a light-up Cinderella ball gown by Tommy Hilfiger.

She made her Met Gala debut in 2015 in a custom Fausto Puglisi sun-motif dress, inspired by the 2015 theme, China: Through the Looking Glass.

During an April 23 appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark Zendaya admitted that the Met Gala is exciting yet "terrifying."

"Going up the steps is very daunting, and I haven't been back for maybe four or five years," she said. "So this is, like, my first time back at the Met in quite a while."

Zendaya also opened up about creating “characters” with Roach, who she’s been working with since she was 14.

"It's fun in the sense that I like to look at fashion as creativity," she explained. "Even in press tours, it's a way to continue the creativity from the film. ... I like to just create characters, because ultimately sometimes, doing this for a living feels a little weird and awkward and I'm more of a shy, introverted person, so I get to create these characters. 'I'm this woman today who wears a green suit.' You get to embody this character for a day and clothes can do that for you."

Fans haven’t been given any hints about what Zendaya’s 2024 Met Gala look might entail, but based on her previous looks, it's sure to wow.

This year's Met Gala theme is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” and the dress code is “The Garden of Time,” inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name.

The coordinating Costume Institute exhibit will feature approximately 250 items — including 15 significant pieces, such as an 1877 Charles Frederick Worth silk satin ball gown — that span over 400 years of history.

The Euphoria star has already been on a red carpet tear this year. On the press tours for both Dune: Part Two and Challengers, the star has committed to dressing on theme. At the London premiere of Dune, she sported a futuristic archival Mugler robot suit from 1995 with butt-baring cutouts, a constricting look that she later admitted made her “light-headed.”

Her tennis-inspired looks for Challengers events have been equally memorable. From chic tennis whites to stilettos with tennis balls pierced through the heels, Zendaya has had no shortage of jaw-dropping red carpet moments.
